Stress Testing Reg Burdens Made “Proportional” at World Council’s Urging

WASHINGTON - The Basel Committee on Banking Supervision (Basel Committee) on October 17th issued a revised Stress Testing Principles standard that will significantly reduce the regulatory burdens of stress tests on credit unions and other community-based financial cooperatives.   World Council of Credit Unions (World Council) earlier this year urged the “proportional” approach to stress testing adopted by the Basel Committee.  Stress tests of credit unions and other community-based cooperative depository institutions are based on this Basel Committee standard and will now be implemented by regulators on a more proportionate basis, based on the size, complexity, resources and risk profile of the institution.

Irish/U.S. Credit Union Exchange Program

Join the Worldwide Foundation in connecting U.S. and Irish credit unions as they collectively tackle issues facing credit union systems worldwide!

In partnership with the Irish Credit Union League, the U.S.-Irish Exchange Program will offer U.S. and Irish credit unions an opportunity to engage in strategic discussions during visits to each country as they collectively map out solutions to issues affecting their systems.

The exchange will work toward:

  • Mutually beneficial exchange of information concerning, but not limited to the operations, marketing, and promotion of credit unions;
  • Development and exchange of best practices for credit unions to improve and expand service to members;
  • Innovation and member service technology,
  • Promotion and growth of credit unions for members, the general public, the media and governmental bodies and officials.

MADISON, Wis. — The World Council of Credit Unions has released its newest Statistical Report, which provides membership and financial data as of December 2017 from credit unions and other financial cooperatives worldwide. This year's report includes information from 89,026 credit unions serving over 260 million members in 117 countries.
