Vice President Marketing & Communications - Washington, D.C.


PRIMARY PURPOSE

Under the general supervision of the President and CEO, employ existing and new media to manage and implement organizational communications and achieve marketing goals. Document World Council's innovations and strategies in credit union programs and communicate them among member organizations. Build World Council's reputation among donors, World Council members, the development community and general public. Provide communication leadership and support to achieve cross-departmental objectives and goals. Supervise communications, marketing, member services and meetings staff. Maintain high-quality corporate communications.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Member Communications: Facilitate the global exchange of information and ideas on credit unions; provide relevant and useful content to member contacts. Supervise, guide and expand World Council's capacity to monitor and identify key strategic issues, profile trends, forecast challenges and share best practices in credit union development. Monitor and identify key/strategic issues in member countries; manage a web-based clearinghouse of information about these key issues, how they have affected other members, how they were addressed, other members' experiences and lessons learned. Provide issue-specific webinars and workshops for members.

Donor Communications: Identify and develop new business opportunities for donor-supported credit union development. Monitor and report on market trends. Stay abreast of donor market demands, liaise with and develop network contacts with funding agencies and government donors. Prioritize and execute donor communications and marketing to support program development goals.

Statistical & Information Research: Supervise research analysis, credit union statistics compilation and information services/requests. Through an annual survey of World Council's membership, collect, compile and disseminate legislative, statistical and taxation information.

Membership Growth: Expand the number of credit union systems that are World Council members as both a strategic and an operational priority. Identify prospective World Council members and encourage and market membership affiliation. Screen and perform due diligence on new member applications.

Corporate Communications: Raise the global awareness of credit unions and build the World Council brand as an internationally recognized champion for credit unions. Direct corporate-wide communications through print, online, photos and video to achieve World Council's strategic goals and meet its revenue requirements. Secure impact-oriented articles and mentions through a variety of media channels and provide editorial support as needed.

Meetings & Special Events: Provide creative and effective management of meetings and special events to fulfill World Council's mission to build a global credit union community. Develop and implement immediate and long-range work plans, financial plans and strategies including venue selection, negotiation, speakers, registration and administrative objectives. Direct the comprehensive planning, implementation, logistics and follow-up for the World Credit Union Conference with the dual goal of achieving a quality educational offering and high net income. Serve as the primary architect for the conference's educational content and speaker selection.

Department Management: Manage all technical, budgetary and promotional aspects of the above responsibilities. Prepare and submit annual work plans and budget proposals. Monitor progress against work plan activities and organizational goals. Oversee departmental operations, including workflow, website development, CRM management and processes that meet other departments' needs in a timely and organized fashion with the highest possible quality. Supervise communications, marketing, member services and meetings staff.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree required; master's degree preferred, as well as at least 10 years of work experience in business, international development, journalism, communications or related field.

Interpersonal Skills: Strong marketing, media and public relations capabilities.

Language Skills: Very high language skills required including the ability to read, analyze and interpret technical journals, financial reports and legal documents. Ability to respond to inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies or members of the business community. Ability to convey strategic World Council objectives and strategic directions. Fluent in English (read, write and speak). Demonstrated ability to clearly articulate credit union development values, uniqueness and compelling stories, including technical and operational aspects of credit union development. Excellent writing, editing, proofreading and verbal communication skills. Detail oriented. Additional fluency in Spanish or French preferred.

Mathematical Skills: Intermediate mathematical skills required including the ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions and percentages.

Reasoning Skills: High reasoning skills required including the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

Computer Skills: Proficiency in computer-based systems including databases, Internet Explorer and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook). Familiarity with video editing and graphic design software preferred..

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

The position will supervise several management and support positions.

LOCATION

Washington, D.C.

TRAVEL

Up to 90 days per calendar year, domestic and international.
