Ron HanceDirector - Credit Union National Association (CUNA)
Ron Hance, a member of World Council of Credit Unions' board of directors, represents the U.S.
credit union movement as a delegate of the Credit Union National Association
(CUNA) & Affiliates. Headquartered in Madison, Wis., USA, World Council is the leading
international trade association and development agency for credit
unions. Worldwide, 51,000 credit unions in 100 countries serve 196,000,000
people. The regional and national credit union and financial cooperative
associations affiliated with World Council represent 57 countries around the globe.
Hance was first elected to the World Council board in 2000 through “Operation
Open Up,” an initiative designed to expand representation at the board level.
He chairs World Council’s Distinguished Service Award committee and the serves on the
Worldwide Foundation for Credit Unions board.
Hance’s credit union career began in 1967 as a volunteer with Heritage
Family Credit Union in Rutland,
Vt., USA, where he served on the board
of directors and various committees. Since 1978, he has been president/CEO of
Heritage Family Credit Union. Under his guidance, the credit union has
grown from US$2 million to nearly US$160 million in assets.
Hance has served as board chairman of the Vermont Credit Union League
and as a CUNA board member, chairing its cooperative development committee. He
has served with the World Affairs Committee, National Credit Union Foundation
(USA), World Leadership Development Committee and the St. Mary’s Bank Credit
Union Foundation board. In 1996, he became a credit union development educator.
For more than a decade, Hance has also been on the local hospital board and
currently serves on St. Joseph’s
College board.
