Anne Cochran

Anne Cochran, 1st vice chair of World Council of Credit Unions' board of directors, represents the U.S. credit union movement as president/CEO of the Louisiana Credit Union League (LCUL). Headquartered in Madison, Wis., USA, World Council is the leading international trade association and development agency for credit unions. Worldwide, 57,000 credit unions in 103 countries serve 208,000,000 people. The regional and national credit union and financial cooperative associations affiliated with World Council represent 55 countries around the globe.

As LCUL president/CEO, Cochran, a native of Dublin, Ireland, matured the association into a prospering, financially sound organization, attaining the highest affiliation ratio in league history. Under her leadership, 26 credit unions united and invested more than US$2 million to create CU Cooperative Branching, LLC, Louisiana's shared-branching network that has become one of the state's most successful cooperatives..

During nearly two decades as LCUL president/CEO, Cochran has served on many credit union organization boards and committees, including the CUNA & Affiliates' Governmental Affairs Committee and CU Service Centers, where she is an executive officer for the regional shared branching network. She also is a member of the CUNA Mutual Group's league research and advisory committee and serves on CUNA's World Affairs Committee. In addition, Cochran served as chair of the Southeast Regional Credit Union Schools, a program that provides learning opportunities to staff and volunteers of Southeast credit unions.

Prior to her current position, Cochran has served World Council in many capacities. She is a frequent speaker at international credit union meetings, including World Council's 2002, 2003 and 2004 Africa regional congresses, tirelessly volunteering her time to help international leagues and credit unions grow and prosper. Cochran is also a member of the Global Women's Leadership Network to help advance credit union women in leadership.

Named one of the "Top 50 Women of the Year" by New Orleans' CityBusiness, Cochran is the recipient of numerous awards. In 2006, the National Credit Union Foundation awarded her the Anchor Award for her "strength, perseverance and leadership in helping credit unions recover from Hurricane Katrina." Cochran developed the Louisiana Credit Union Foundation to provide financial assistance for statewide disaster relief efforts and educational opportunities for credit union employees and volunteers. In 2011, she was inducted into the Louisiana Credit Union Hall of Fame.

Cochran is a graduate of McNeese State University, Penn State University CUNA Management Schools and the University of Wisconsin Certified League Executive School.
