Kim Sponem is CEO and President of Summit Credit Union, one of Wisconsin’s largest credit unions. Under her leadership, the credit union has grown from $200 million in 2002 to $2.9 billion in assets currently. Its branch network has expanded from three locations to 33 throughout south-central and southeastern Wisconsin, including three in Madison high schools.
Under her leadership, Summit has won dozens of awards recognizing its work in the community including, more recently, three Governor’s Financial Literacy Awards.
Sponem is on the Worldwide Foundation for Credit Unions board, chairs CUNA’s World Affairs Committee and is a Wisconsin Sister Society co-leader for the Global Women’s Leadership Network. She serves on several boards including the Consumer Federation of America in Washington DC, the Executive Committee of the Madison Area Chamber of Commerce, and the Wisconsin Physicians Service (WPS) Insurance Corporation.
She is also the current board chair for the Credit Union Executive Society (CUES) and immediate past chair of Corporate Central Credit Union board in Milwaukee. At the time of becoming CEO sixteen years ago, Sponem was named one of the youngest in the country to run a large-size credit union. She was named in the top 25 most influential people in greater Madison, awarded 2016 Change Agent Award from Best of Business, Ethical Leadership Award by Edgewood College and the Cooperative Builder Award by Cooperative Network.
