The Rural Microfinance: Strategies for Reaching the Underserved conference took place September 30-October 1, 2009, in Mexico City, Mexico.

The conference brought together practitioners in the Mexican credit union movement and donor agencies worldwide to discuss the key role of microfinance in fighting poverty. It showcased rural credit union outreach efforts adaptable to other regions and provided a forum to discuss new approaches for serving economically disadvantaged and underserved populations.

The conference was a collaborative effort between World Council of Credit Unions (WOCCU) and the Mexican Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Rural Development, Fishing and Food (SAGARPA).
