Beijing Pre-Tour: July 9 - 12, 2008

Beijing, the home of the 2008 Olympics, is undergoing an astonishing economic boom. The Chinese capital also is one of the world’s most historically significant and cultured cities. From the wonders of the Forbidden City to the atmospheric Hutung district and an altogether amazing treasury of historic sites, Beijing is truly a city that you should not miss. This 4-day/3-night tour offers an in-depth look at the nation’s ancient culture and modern life.

Tour Itinerary
Wednesday, July 9th – Beijing
  • Participants arrive in Beijing and are greeted by a representative from China Travel Service.
  • Transportation to your hotel will be provided.
  • The tour will begin in the afternoon with an overview of the venues that will be used for the 2008 Summer Olympics.
  • Dinner will be served at a local restaurant after which participants will return to the hotel to relax on their own.
Thursday, July 10th – Beijing
  • Breakfast will be provided at the hotel.
  • This morning the tour will embark for the Great Wall of China, the world's longest human-made structure. On the way, the tour will stop at the Cloisonné Factory to see how typical local art pieces are made.
  • Lunch will be served at a local restaurant before heading to the Summer Palace where you will experience the luxurious life of the Empress Dowager in the Qing Dynast.
  • Walk the famous Long Corridor inside the imperial park, enjoy the exquisite paintings inside and the beautiful views of Kunming Lake outside.
  • After a full day of sightseeing, enjoy a delicious dinner and entertainment before returning to your hotel.
Friday, July 11th – Beijing
  • Breakfast will be provided at the hotel.
  • Enjoy a full day of sightseeing today in Beijing! This morning participants will visit Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City.
  • Enjoy an Imperial Meal for lunch and afterward take a rickshaw tour of Hutung.
  • In the afternoon, you will visit a famous Lama Temple before returning to your hotel for a short rest before dinner at the famous Hepingmen Roast Duck Restaurant for a traditional Beijing Duck Dinner.
Saturday, July 12th – Beijing & Hong Kong
  • Breakfast will be provided at the hotel before departing for the beautiful Temple of Heaven.
  • Enjoy a Dumpling Banquet lunch before heading to the airport for the four-hour flight to Hong Kong.
  • Upon arrival to Hong Kong, transportation to your hotel will be provided.

Bangkok Post-Tour: July 17 - 20, 2008

Bangkok, considered to be one of the world’s top three tourist hotspots according to Travel and Leisure Magazine, is currently Asia's top tourist destination. Bangkok boasts some of the country's most-visited historical venues, especially in the Rattanakosin area and river districts. Of these, you will visit the Grand Palace, Wat Pho, also known as The Temple of the Reclining Buddha, which is a Buddhist temple directly adjacent to the Grand Palace and Wat Arun, better known as the Temple of the Dawn. This is an ideal tour to help you unwind after the conference.

Tour Itinerary
Thursday, July 17th – Hong Kong & Bangkok
  • Participants depart Hong Kong on a morning flight to Bangkok and are greeted by a representative from China Travel Service.
  • Transportation to your hotel will be provided.
  • Following lunch, the group will tour the Grand Palace, the nation's landmark and one of the most notorious monuments in Thailand. Though no longer the royal residence, it remains the symbol of the kingdom. You’ll visit the key attractions around the Grand Palace including Wat Phra Kaew Temple of the Emerald Buddha, Royal Pantheon, Coronation Throne Hall, Royal Reception Hall, and Royal Funeral Hall.
  • This evening you will be treated to a special dinner and show at the Oriental Hotel’s Sala Rim Naam Restaurant .
Friday, July 18th – Bangkok
  • Breakfast will be provided at the hotel.
  • Today you will visit the Dammern Saduak and Rose Garden. This full day tour takes you to the rural, yet notorious floating market of Dammern Saduak, situated 100 kilometers west of Bangkok. The tour includes a visit to Nakorn Pathom; site of the highest Chedi in Thailand called "Phra Pathom Chedi." An excellent buffet lunch will be served at the picturesque Rose Garden Country Resort. Afterward, you will see the cultural show at Thai Village, offering a short introduction into the many customs of Thai Life. The show includes the colorful Buddhist ordination procession, an elegant fingernail dance, a Thai boxing demonstration, Hill Tribe dance performances, sword-fighting, elephants at work, charming flock dances and a traditional Thai wedding ceremony.
Saturday, July 19th – Bangkok
  • Breakfast will be provided at the hotel.
  • Participants will journey to Ayuthaya, Thailand’s former capital located approximately 60 kilometers north of Bangkok. The tour starts at the Summer Palace of the late Kiong Rama V, commonly known as “Bang Pa-In.” You’ll continue to the magnificent ruins of this World Heritage Site. We will return to Bankok by boat, cruising down the Chao Phraya River on a comfortable air-conditioned ship, while enjoying a sumptuous buffet lunch on board. Upon arrival at the disembarkation point in Bangkok in the late afternoon, you will be transferred back to your hotel.
Sunday, July 20th – Bangkok & Home
  • Breakfast will be provided at the hotel before departing for the airport.
