Peru/ Vermont Establish CU2CU Partnership
Last May, the Association of Vermont Credit Unions and the Federación
Nacional de Cooperativas de Ahorro y Crédito del Perú (FENACREP) signed a
partnership agreement through World Council of Credit Unions’ (WOCCU)
International Partnerships Program. In December,
the partners took their next step in the development of their partnership by
establishing a direct credit union-to-credit union (CU2CU) partnership.
Rocio Miyashiro Kiyan, CEO of ABACO Credit Union in Peru, and Manuel Rabines, CEO
of FENACREP and member of the WOCCU board of directors, travelled to Rutland, Vermont
to meet with Ron Hance, CEO Heritage Family Credit Union and member of the
WOCCU board of directors. The CU2CU
partnership will allow a direct channel for communication and technical
assistance between ABACO Credit Union in Peru
and Heritage Family Credit Union in Vermont. One of the central foci of the relationship will
be a staff exchange program which will involve staff members from both credit
unions.
During their visit, Rabines and Kiyan also had the opportunity
to speak on public access television during a Rutland Chamber of Commerce
event. Technical tours of Heritage’s
branches were given also.
The visit ended in Burlington,
Vermont where Rabines and Kiyan joined
an Association of Vermont Credit Unions board meeting.
