World Council Membership Criteria
National organizations that represent financial cooperatives or regional confederations of national organizations may join as direct affiliates provided that no other national organization from that country is affiliated with World Council. Member organizations must abide by International Credit Union Principles and demonstrate financial viability. Direct members pay a mandatory annual fee, calculated on the basis of affiliated credit unions’ total assets. The board of directors review and vote upon new membership applications three times per year. The General Assembly approves formal membership admission at its Annual General Meeting.
To apply for full membership, please submit the following items:
- Letter of intent from your board of directors requesting direct membership.
- Completed membership application (also available in Russian and Spanish).
- Constitution and bylaws of your organization.
- Certification from your board of directors verifying the following :
- The application was adopted by a majority of your directors.
- Your organization will abide by WOCCU bylaws.
- Your organization currently adheres to, or will strive to meet within an acceptable period of time, currently accepted best business practices as defined by WOCCU, including adhering to and promoting PEARLS standards within your membership base.
- The financial statements of your organization for the last three years including balance sheets and income statements. These must be audited by an accredited accounting firm.
- Mandatory dues payment in US$ for the first calendar year or the prorated portion of the year.
