World Council will present the 2016 DSA honors at the World Credit Union Conference in Belfast.

MADISON, Wis. — World Council of Credit Unions is calling for 2016 Distinguished Service Award (DSA) nominations, the winners of which will be presented at the World Credit Union Conference, July 17–20, 2016, in Belfast, Ireland. The DSA honors individuals and organizations that have provided outstanding service to credit union development outside their home country. It is the international credit union movement's highest honor.

"Our global community of credit unions is stronger thanks to the dedicated efforts of individuals and organizations who believe in it," said Brian Branch, World Council president and CEO. "The prestigious Distinguished Service Award is a way to recognize their outstanding service."

Individuals and organizations that have furthered World Council's vision to expand financial inclusion worldwide through the global credit union community through their activities and achievements are eligible for nomination by World Council member organizations and their affiliated credit unions. Individual recipients may be women or men whose actions have significantly benefited global credit union development beyond their national boundaries. Institutional recipients may be organizations or agencies that have provided financial or technical assistance to develop international credit union movements and their service infrastructures over an extended period of time.

The DSA is not an annual award; rather it is presented based on the proven achievements and worthiness of candidates according to the award committee's review. This year World Council will provide each DSA recipient with a complimentary conference registration and one companion registration for the 2016 World Credit Union Conference in Belfast. At last year's World Credit Union Conference in Denver, USA, World Council awarded the DSA to the following recipients:

  • Dick Ensweiler, USA, president and CEO of Cornerstone Credit Union League;
  • Scott Kennedy, Canada, director of Credit Union Central of Canada; former director of Concentra Financial Services Association; and former director of World Council;
  • Roberto Rodrigues, Brazil, former president of Organization of Cooperatives in Brazil; former vice president of Organization of Cooperatives of the Americas; and former president of International Co-operative Alliance and International Co-operative Agricultural Organization.
  • Aloun Ndombet-Assamba, Jamaica, Jamaica's high commissioner in the United Kingdom; former minister of industry and tourism; and former minister of state in the ministry of industry, commerce and technology.

Nominations must be made by a World Council member organization and are due Monday, March 14, 2016. Visit www.woccu.org/dsa to download the nomination criteria and nomination form and see a list of past winners.
