ICU Day Celebrated on Capitol Hill

Washington, DC—World Council of Credit Unions and the Credit Union National Association (CUNA) celebrated International Credit Union Day at a reception on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC. Over 60 representatives from congressional offices, the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA), the National Association of State Credit Union Supervisors and state leagues involved in World Council's International Partnerships participated in the event.

Dan Mica, CEO of CUNA; Rodney Hood, vice chairman, NCUA; and Pete Crear, CEO of World Council briefly addressed the audience on the importance of credit unions in the U.S. and around the world. Mica said, "The U.S. Credit Union Movement is a proud part of a world community of credit unions, which includes 42,000 credit unions in 92 countries proudly serving 157 million members and that number continues to grow." He continued, "In remote rural communities in Africa, the Middle East, Asia, and Latin America, new credit unions offer financial services to millions who never had any access before."



World Council of Credit Unions is the global trade association and development agency for credit unions. World Council promotes the sustainable development of credit unions and other financial cooperatives around the world to empower people through access to high quality and affordable financial services. World Council advocates on behalf of the global credit union system before international organizations and works with national governments to improve legislation and regulation. Its technical assistance programs introduce new tools and technologies to strengthen credit unions' financial performance and increase their outreach.
