International Credit Union (ICU) Day Materials Available Online
Credit unions that would like to celebrate and promote International
Credit Union Day, this year occurring on Oct. 16, can now access
graphic and support materials online, courtesy of the Credit Union
National Association (CUNA) and World Council of Credit Unions (WOCCU).
The official artwork for this year's ICU Day theme-It Belongs to MeTM-and a variety of sample materials for marketing and public relations support of the international event are now available to download free of charge at www.woccu.org/icuday.
The graphics, available in English and Spanish, include the It Belongs to MeTM poster, featuring a mosaic globe made up of photos of credit union members from around the world. There are also four different logo icons and children's coloring pages.
International Credit Union Day has been celebrated every year on the third Thursday in October since 1948. Credit unions around the world hold open houses, picnics and community service events to show appreciation for their members and staff. This year's theme, developed by Laquita Normore, marketing and communications manager for Eagle River Credit Union in L'Anse au Loup, Newfoundland, Canada, perfectly sums up the credit union and cooperative principle of ownership, reminding us that all members are also owners of their credit unions regardless of how much money they may have in savings.
Again this year, CUNA and WOCCU have teamed up to provide sample public relations and marketing materials that can be customized for your credit union. These include a sample press release, advertisement, model letter to the editor, newsletter article, proclamation, talking points and speech. These materials will soon be available in Spanish as well.
Credit unions looking for help planning or promoting the day can find links on the ICU Day homepage to useful information, such as a list of celebration ideas and media tips. To buy promotional products including statement stuffers, t-shirts and balloons with the official It Belongs to MeTM logo, visit http://finlit.cuna.org/icuday_buy.html.
