Linda Johnson, Spouse of CUES President and CEO Fred Johnson, Dies

MADISON, Wis.-The Credit Union Executives Society announces with great sadness the death of Linda (Aplas) Johnson, spouse of president and CEO Fred Johnson. Linda Johnson died February 14, 2006 from complications of lung cancer which was diagnosed a year ago. A memorial service in celebration of Linda's life will be held Friday, February 17, 2006.

"Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with the Johnson family during this sad time," said Rose Bartolomucci, CUES' chairman of the board of directors and president/CEO, Kent Credit Union, Kent, Ohio.

Linda Johnson was born on January 28, 1950 in New Brunswick, N.J. She attended Rutgers and Temple Universities and graduated from St. Peters Hospital School of Nursing in New Brunswick, N.J. as a Registered Nurse (RN). Linda worked as an RN at Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center, Los Angeles and Hahnemann Medical College & Hospital, Philadelphia. She enjoyed traveling, interior decorating, and cooking, and was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, Middleton.

In addition to Fred, Linda is survived by four sons: Rob (Michelle), Pat (Jackie Michel), Andy and Jake, Madison, Wis.; plus two granddaughters, Samantha and Amanda Johnson. Also surviving Linda are her mother, Olga Aplas of Asbury, N.J., and two sisters: Ann (Tony) Harkawij of Asbury, N.J., and Lisa (Ray) Pohlke of Colts Neck, N.J.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Linda Aplas Johnson Memorial Lung Cancer Hope Fund with proceeds benefiting the Creating Hope Lung Cancer Campaign, created to provide facilities and support for a lung cancer research wing in the new Cancer Research Tower, University of Wisconsin Comprehensive Cancer Center, Madison, Wis. Visitation will be held at Gunderson Funeral Home, 7435 University Avenue, Middleton, Wis. from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, February 17, 2006, with a short service at 7:30 p.m.

Ten to 15 percent of the people who are diagnosed with lung cancer have never smoked. Linda Johnson was a member of this minority. It is the family's hope that research will lead to more survivors of this cancer that kills more women than all other cancers combined.
