WOCCU-ACCION Presents Savings Mobilization Seminar in Bogota
With the participation of 18 staff from ACCION
International, the Savings Mobilization seminar
presented by World Council of Credit Unions, Inc.
(WOCCU) experts took place in Bogotá from
September 26th – 29th, 2005. Representatives from
Bolivia, Canada, Colombia, Ecuador, El Salvador,
Honduras, Nicaragua, Paraguay, Perú and the USA
attended the event. The workshop, which is part of
the learning agenda in the WOCCU-ACCION Project
financed by USAID, facilitated the transfer of
methodologies and techniques for the Mobilization
of Savings in microfinance entities and was based
on credit union experiences.
WOCCU works with ACCION International to
strengthen the capacity of credit unions and
microfinance institutions in a three-year, US$2.5
million dollar program. The project combines the
experience of both organizations to expand the
market outreach and the range of savings and
credit services offered to low income
microentrepreneurs in Colombia, as well as
introduce microlending technologies into credit
unions.
