WOCCU Board Chairman Speaks at ACCUL Summer Meeting

Focus on Cooperation Among Cooperatives

Nassau, Bahamas—World Council of Credit Unions' board chairman, L.R. Bobby McVeigh addressed the Association of American Credit Union Leagues (ACCUL) this week in Bahamas at the conclusion of ACCUL's Summer Meeting at the Atlantis on Paradise Island.

Talking about the need for commitment McVeigh recalled beginning as a credit union volunteer, board member and the importance of all levels of the credit union system.

McVeigh stressed the importance of cooperatives working cooperatively to face the challenges and achieve the goals not only within the states, but also at an international level. Stressing the importance of the partnership between WOCCU and ACCUL McVeigh thanked U.S. credit union movement for their commitment to credit union development making the International Partnership a success.

McVeigh highlighted the achievements saying, "Partnerships have helped evaluate cross border services, need by members on both sides of the border; started new programs; evaluated and lobbied for new credit union specific legislation; and worked toward starting a Central Finance Facility."

The World Council board of directors and senior management staff were also present for the evening address and participated in the joint ACCUL/WOCCU meetings.
