World Council is dedicated to building a global community. Currently, international development programs in countries ranging from Colombia to Haiti and Ethiopia are helping alleviate poverty through access to affordable financial services. These are current priorities for which World Council is seeking funding:
|Directors' Action Fund
Access to financial services and resources
has the power to transition families from
everyday survival to long-term planning for
the future. In many countries, millions of
people are looking for the chance to work
their way out of poverty, yet there is no local
bank or credit union to provide small business
loans or help build savings.
Where credit unions do exist, they often
lack the skills, knowledge and training to
successfully govern their organization and
enhance service delivery.
With support from the Directors’ Action
Fund, we collaborate with developing
country credit union staff and directors to
share best practices, expand knowledge and
improve expertise so the organization can
better serve its members and sustainably reach the unbanked.
At your next board meeting, please
consider asking your leaders to champion
the movement by donating $40 per
board member or through a corporate
|World Council Priority Fund
World Council designates these funds to the most immediate needs. These flexible funds allow World Council to respond quickly to the needs of credit unions and the movement abroad.
|International Partnerships Program
World Council's International Partnership program matches more than 25 U.S.
state credit union leagues and one Canadian province central with
developing countries to share ideas and provide guidance. World Council
partnerships provide valuable mentoring to developing movements and
offer professional development opportunities to credit union personnel
in more developed movements.
Ways to Give
You can make a difference in the lives of the working poor and help ensure the future of the credit union movement by making a gift today to World Council through the Worldwide Foundation for Credit Unions, World Council's charitable arm. With proper gift planning, you may reduce your income taxes, avoid capital-gains tax and increase your spendable income.
There are many way to donate:
Gifts of Assets
The simplest way to support World Council is with a cash gift to the Worldwide Foundation for Credit Unions. But there can be tax advantages to gifts such as appreciated stocks, bonds, and property (real estate or personal property such as jewelry or collections). A gift of assists can provide you with a full charitable deduction, but may offer additional tax savings.
For example, when securities that have been owned for more than a year and have appreciated in value are donated, the giver is usually entitled to an income tax deduction for the full current value of the asset, not just the cost basis. The donor also bypasses any capital gains tax.
You can give through life insurance policies, retirement accounts, and even financial institution accounts. You may donate a policy you already own, assign dividends as a gift, or name WF as a beneficiary. In addition to estate tax benefits, you may also gain an income tax deduction.
Gifts by Will
When revising your will, please consult your advisors about including charities such as the Worldwide Foundation. Sample language may include:
I hereby give, devise, and bequeath to the Worldwide Foundation for Credit Unions, a nonprofit, nonstock Wisconsin corporation with its principal office in Madison, Wisconsin, _________ percent ( %) of the rest, residue, and remainder of my estate as an unrestricted gift to be used in the area of greatest need at the time the gift is received.
Do you want to support our work alleviating poverty through credit unions but still want to ensure income for yourself and family? Life-income gifts (gift annuities, charitable remainder trusts) can provide you steady income, current tax savings, while still achieving your charitable goals. Consults with your financial advisors about setting up a life-income gift.
The Legacy Society
When you include a legacy gift for the Worldwide Foundation for Credit Unions in your estate plan, you will be invited to join our Legacy Society.
The Legacy Society belongs to dedicated World Council supporters who have made a lasting commitment to alleviating poverty through credit unions and to our movement.
Your name will be placed in our national "Legacy Society Honor Roll" to commemorate your generous support. The Legacy Society Circle Honor Roll will be reported in Credit Union World magazine and on the Worldwide Foundation website.
If you prefer, your commitment can remain confidential. However, we still would like to know about your intention to leave a bequest. This allows us to maintain accurate records, and to show our appreciation privately.
There are many ways to leave a lasting legacy in the credit union movement. Discussions with your legal or financial advisor, your family and our staff can help you determine the most suitable opportunities for you.
