WYCUP Deadline Draws Near
WOCCU Outlines 1 CU Conference Schedule for Young Participants
MADISON, Wis. — A day-long networking meeting and luncheons with both a conference keynote speaker and the World Council of Credit Unions' (WOCCU) board of directors are just some of the many activities awaiting participants in this year's WOCCU Young Credit Union People (WYCUP) Scholarship Program. But the deadline for applications is drawing near.
Interested applicants must submit their WYCUP nominations to WOCCU headquarters by Monday, June 7, 2010. The five scholarship recipients will be recognized during a special ceremony at the close of The 1 Credit Union Conference, scheduled for July 11-14, at the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas, Nev., USA. In addition to the recognition, this year's scholarship recipients will win all-expense-paid trips to WOCCU's 2011 World Credit Union Conference in Glasgow, Scotland.
"WYCUP celebrates its 10th anniversary this year and we've seen more than 400 young professionals and volunteers from credit unions worldwide pass through the program," said WYCUP founder Dave Grace, WOCCU vice president of association services. "Many have told us being named a WYCUP scholarship recipient has made a profound difference in both their lives and careers."
The WYCUP Scholarship Program seeks individuals who have already made significant contributions to the development of their own credit unions, or regional or national credit union systems, and have demonstrated the potential to employ their unique talents at the international level. Credit unions and credit union organizations that are WOCCU members are encouraged to nominate their next generation of leaders to compete for the WYCUP Scholarship.
To be eligible for the scholarship, nominees must: 1) be sponsored by their credit union or credit union organization to attend The 1 Credit Union Conference — a combination of WOCCU's World Credit Union Conference and CUNA's America's Credit Union Conference — in Las Vegas in July; 2) be 35 years of age or younger on January 1, 2010; and 3) submit a completed nomination form to WOCCU with all the necessary supporting materials no later than June 7, 2010.
All WYCUP nominees, regardless of award status, will be formally recognized in Las Vegas and invited to take part in events and networking sessions organized throughout the conference specifically for participants under age 35. Any conference registrants age 35 and under also qualify for a discounted registration fee regardless of whether or not they compete for the scholarship.
