International Credit Union (ICU) Day® celebrates the spirit of the global credit union movement. The day is recognized to reflect upon the credit union movement's history, promote its achievements, recognize hard work and share member experiences. International Credit Union (ICU) Day® has been celebrated on the third Thursday of October since 1948.

The ultimate goal is to raise awareness about the tremendous work that credit unions and financial cooperatives are doing around the world and give members the opportunity to get more engaged. Celebrations across the globe include fundraisers, open houses, contests, picnics, volunteering and parades.

In 2026, World Council of Credit Unions (WOCCU) and Worldwide Foundation for Credit Unions (WFCU) invite you to celebrate the 78th anniversary of International Credit Union Day® on Thursday, 15 October, under the theme:

Cooperative Finance: A Steady Signal in a Noisy World

ICU Day 2026 Pin, Media Kit, Merch and Grant Opportunity

WFCU is once again offering a commemorative ICU Day pin alongside branded merchandise and an exclusive media kit featuring digital backgrounds, social media graphics, pledge cards, a PowerPoint template and email signature blocks.

New in 2026, WFCU is launching a grant program offering USD 10,000 to credit unions, financial cooperatives and central credit unions worldwide to bring financial literacy directly to their communities. Applications are open now through 1 August 2026, with recipients announced on ICU Day itself – 15 October 2026.
