Together we are working to expand engagement opportunities, enrich professional journeys and empower young professionals to be part of the solution.

In 2021, the WYCUP Affiliates Council will follow a thematic journey: strengthening communications channels between local networks, connecting young professionals across their networks and sharing global perspectives on our shared challenges.

From Financial Invisibility to Inclusion: Digital Financial Services for Venezuelan Migrants and Refugees
Migrants and refugees often lack access to financial services given distinct barriers that they face in their host countries. Since the beginning of the pandemic in 2020, World Council of Credit Unions (WOCCU) has been implementing the USAID-funded Economic Inclusion Program (EIP) in Peru and Ecuador. The Center for Financial Inclusion is hosting this one-hour virtual event as part of Financial Inclusion Week. It will feature EIP Chief of Party Oscar Guzman highlighting the tools and methodologies WOCCU has developed to support the expansion of digital financial services for Venezuelan migrants and refugees, emphasizing the strategies necessary to increase digital financial inclusion for this traditionally excluded population.

The meeting was sponsored by the Zambian Women and Youth Economic Empowerment Savings and Credit Union. Topics discussed were International Credit Union Day, the Importance of Women Financial Inclusion and Economic Inclusion. The guest speaker was Mr. Ngosa Mumba from the National Association of Savings and Credit Union, the Apex Body of all Financial Cooperatives in Zambia.Mr. Mumba encouraged women to continue saving because saving can be one of the ways that can contribute to their becoming Financially and Economically empowered. Other speakers were Dr. Dorothy Chiluba, Country Champion. She informed participants that her leadership skills have tremendously improved as a result of the learning scholarship that was awarded to her by the GWLN in 2023. She also encouraged participants to join the GWLN.

The Guest Speaker was Dr. Dorothy Chiluba, Country Champion. She informed participants that women play important roles in society regardless of their status, whether as Employers, Employees, Farmers, Entrepreneurs, House wives they contribute greatly to economic growth of any nation. She also encouraged women to join the GWLN. Other speakers were Ms. Njekwa Lumbwe, Ms. Hope Sule and Ms Nelly Nyirenda who shared more on the importance of Mindset Change for Women Self Economic Empowerment. The number of Attendees were 25.

The USAID/WOCCU Economic Inclusion Project (EIP) launched in June 2020 to help Venezuelan migrants and vulnerable local residents in Lima, Peru, and Quito and Guayaquil, Ecuador, achieve socioeconomic security by gaining greater access to financial products and services, entrepreneurship and employment programs, and services focused on the prevention of gender-based violence. Renewed for an additional three years in 2023, EIP now also focuses on the inclusion of youth and LGBTQI+ communities, capacity-building for credit unions and other local organizations, climate change adaptation and mitigation through the promotion of green entrepreneurial businesses, jobs and financial products.
