International Year of Cooperatives

The United Nations' General Assembly proclaimed 2025 as the International Year of Cooperatives (IYC) under the theme "Cooperatives Build a Better World" to emphasize the important role cooperatives play in sustainable development and how they are essential to solving today’s global challenges. As the only international trade association representing credit unions and other financial cooperatives worldwide, World Council of Credit Unions (WOCCU) is recognizing the International Year of Cooperatives during in many of its 2025 events and activities, and in important communications to members throughout the year.

2025 Global Regulatory Update

With a vast amount of regulatory uncertainty and an International Year of Cooperatives’ mission to fulfill—2025 is a critical year for credit union advocacy worldwide. That is the overriding theme of WOCCU International Advocacy's 2025 Global Regulatory Update, which stresses how global leaders embrace or reject international standards will impact the regulatory landscape this year and beyond.

Stay tuned for more opportunities to engage with WOCCU on events and activities related to the International Year of Cooperatives throughout the rest of 2025.
