Helene McManus

Irish League of Credit Unions

Helene McManus is a Director of the Irish League of Credit Unions (ILCU) having been elected to the Board in 2017. Helene served as President of the ILCU from April 2021 to April 2023 and prior to that served as Treasurer from 2019 to 2021. Helene is currently on the Management Committee of the ILCU and has served on this Committee since 2019. 

During Helene’s time as President, she oversaw an extensive transformation of the ILCU to ensure the organization is fit for purpose going forward. Helene has worked closely with the ILCU CEO and has been involved in several collaboration projects including one introducing major changes to how the credit union sector in Ireland handles payments.

Helene has also been one of the ILCU delegates to the European Network of Credit Unions (ENCU) and has attended meetings in Brussels as part of this role including meeting with Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) and their officials.

Helene has been actively involved with Kilcloon & District Credit Union for over 25 years as a volunteer serving in all principal roles, most recently as Chair of the Board. Helene has been a credit union delegate for many years and has served as Chair and Secretary of Chapter 25.

Helene is a native of Ballyconnell, Co Cavan, and has lived in Kilcock, Co Kildare, since the 1980s with her husband Philip. She has four adult children and two grandchildren. Helene has recently retired from her role as Health Care Manager with the HSE (Health Service Executive). Helene holds a master’s in management from Trinity College, Dublin, has a Pathways Credit Union Diploma from UCC, an Advanced Credit Union qualification from the University of Ulster and is currently studying at the Institute of Directors to become a Chartered Director.
