International Credit Union (ICU) Day®

International Credit Union (ICU) Day® celebrates the spirit of the global credit union movement. The day is recognized to reflect upon the credit union movement's history, promote its achievements, recognize hard work and share member experiences. International Credit Union (ICU) Day® has been celebrated on the third Thursday of October since 1948.

The ultimate goal is to raise awareness about the tremendous work that credit unions and other financial cooperatives are doing around the world and give members the opportunity to get more engaged. The day of festivities for credit unions and financial cooperatives globally includes fundraisers, open houses, contests, picnics, volunteering and parades.

We will celebrate the 77th anniversary of International Credit Union Day®  on Thursday, October 16, 2025.

One World Through Cooperative Finance

In 2024, we gathered together as a global movement on Thursday, October 17, to celebrate ICU Day under the theme: One World Through Cooperative Finance. 

World Council of Credit Unions (WOCCU) and Worldwide Foundation for Credit Unions (WFCU) asked credit unions to spread the word about International Credit Union (ICU) Day far and wide, and helped them do that by providing a sample ICU Day news release, letter to the editor, advertisement and other materials they could use to educate their members and communities about this important day.

And of course, we also asked credit unions to spread the word about International Credit Union (ICU) Day® by displaying ICU Day 2024 posters in their credit unions. We provided them with more color and design options for ICU Day posters, themes, logos and coloring pages than ever before.
