Cecilia Marin Thoma

Director of Engagement

As Director of Engagement, Cecilia Marin Thoma serves as the nexus between World Council and Worldwide Foundation for Credit Unions by designing engagement opportunities based on World Council's value proposition and delivering them to diverse audiences across the international credit union community through Global Bridges and other programs.

Prior to becoming director of engagement, Ms. Thoma served as World Council's Technical Director of Financial Inclusion, using her technical and international experience to support the development and integration of technical methodologies, processes and tools into current WOCCU programs aimed at expanding financial inclusion.

She has experience in managerial accounting, internal controls, auditing analytics, credit union regulations, grants management and financial statements. She also brings experience working in credit unions, state and local government agencies, non-profits and private industry.

Prior to working for World Council, Ms. Thoma worked at Local Government & Civic Federal Credit Union (USA) as a Senior Internal Auditor for operational, compliance and information systems audits. Currently, she maintains a connection with the credit union movement by serving as a member of the Supervisory Committee for the Latino Community Credit Union in the U.S.

Ms. Thoma has lived and worked in Mexico, the United Kingdom and the U.S. and has traveled to over 38 countries around the world. She is a Certified Public Accountant, Certified Information Systems Auditor, NAFCU Certified Compliance Officer and Certified Global Management Accountant. She holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting with a concentration in Information Systems from North Carolina State University. She is fluent in both English and Spanish.
